sound artists and improvisers. it's a joint effort of Ristretto and Sirr platforms and with S�culo support,

The enigmatic Taku Unami is long associated with Tokyo's contemporary improvising scene,
and having honed his own aesthetic in the city's ultra-quiet Off-Site improvisation meetings,
Unami has released several provocative recordings on his own Hibari label.

Ko Ishikawa is a professional "Sho" (Japanese bamboo mouth organ) player and is a member of the
Gagaku ensemble "Reigakusha". He was born in Tokyo in 1963 and studied Sho and Gagaku music
with huge masters like Mayumi Miyata.

Masahiko Okura started performing in public venues around Tokyo in 1994, after joining the techno-noise band
Dub Sonic Warrior. At about the same time he also formed the band Sun King with Tadahiko Kanai (sax),
Takashi Takeoka (bass) and Tadashi Matsumoto (drums). He uses alto saxophone, bass clarinet and tubes in
his work both as a solo artist and as a collaborator with other artists of improvised music.

Axel Dorner (Berlin) is a trumpet player with a panoramic perspective. In his hands, it can sing with all the
glorious history jazz has invested in it. Or, alternatively, it can be reduced to an improvisor's "objet trouv�" -
twisted clumb of clumber's refuse, metal tube of given length with several holes and plugs given over to
variances in hissing and whistling."

Klaus Filip (Viena), sinewave wizzard, lloopp mentor and enormous digital programmer, long time
colaborator of toshimaru nakamura or radu malfati.

In the exhibition �Beyond Paradise� tourist image production and narratives, as we know them from travel brochures, postcards, advertisements, films and so on, are appropriated in the works presented. They reflect on the construction of expectations, experiences and the social imaginary of places evoked by the ubiquitous and pervasive culture of tourism we are living in nowadays.
The starting point of this exhibition also stems from the paradox that tourism still involves romantic, if not paradisiacal imagery, whereas the tourist experience is actually shattered by all kinds of forces that haunt our daily lives: commercialism, gentrification, the complex entanglement of migration and tourist destinations, war, and fear of terrorism. But it is also significant for the strength of our tourism-minded culture that even such threatening notions and experiences can be integrated in a package tour.
�Beyond Paradise� investigates modes of representation and visibility, starting from the mass production of images � a scheme central to the leisure industry � and the idealized imagery of places, and moves away from the familiar Tourist Gaze to construct unexpected fictional or personal narratives. The promises of these idealistic and seductive images are appropriated and eventually shifted in the works presented in the exhibition, to reveal other realities, and take us beyond paradise in order to question one of the greatest fictions of our times: that of tourism.

Patricia Esquivias. Folklore #2

The dialectical reversal displayed in many of the works
creates subtle movements between the fictitious personal
journey, tourism and cultural representation. In her video
projection Folklore #2 (2008), Patricia Esquivias (VE) uses
voice-over storytelling, with the help of props such as hand
made maps, notes, Internet images and advertisements, to
explore unusual links in Spanish history. Esquivias juxtaposes
two historical figures: of King Phillip II of Spain who in
the 16th century exploited a global empire and the Spanish
singer Julio Iglesias, who became extreme popular in the
70s. These parallel stories unravel an unexpected tale: the
adoration of the sun and the beginning of the mass tourism
in Spain, revealing the national economic agenda of both.

La exposici�n Informes de Campo se formula como una intervenci�n escult�rica-narrativa que opera como un detonante de conexiones hist�ricas, pol�ticas y culturales relativas a las coyunturas de Uruguay y Chile. El prop�sito es elaborar una plataforma de producci�n de archivo sobre ciertas relaciones bilaterales: la relaci�n del artista y curador chileno con el Uruguay, la relaci�n de personajes p�blicos uruguayos con chile y, finalmente, la respuesta de algunos artistas locales a la intervenci�n escult�rica (puesta en escena) en si misma.
El montaje propone una reflexi�n est�tica sobre el lenguaje de los desplazamientos en el contexto internacional, problematizando la idea misma "localidad" al incluir experiencias personales en un contexto publico.

El proyecto se inicia como el viaje de un artista. Un viaje de investigaci�n acotado por una serie de conversaciones. Dos de estas conversaciones son con personajes p�blicos pero que tienen motivos privados; las otras son con personajes privados pero cuyos motivos son p�blicos. El producto final es la puesta en escena sonora de estos registros de audio en una estructura modular met�lica dispuesta en la sala de exposiciones temporales del Museo J.M. Blanes.

Lo que define el trabajo de Nicol�s Franco Guzm�n no es el deambular como un paseante solitario, siguiendo la figura del artista que realiza una �deriva� y que termina interpretando, seg�n su sensibilidad y capital est�tico, el efecto de dicho deambular.

En este caso, hay una colaboraci�n con el curador, que le ha solicitado realizar una pesquisa. De hecho, es la pesquisa la que en un principio define el m�todo de aproximaci�n que Franco Guzm�n a la ciudad de Montevideo, esta pesquisa estar� a su vez enfrascada representacionalmente en una obra escult�rica cuya funci�n ser� poner en juego los elementos derivados de esta experiencia. As�, Franco Guzm�n crea una estructura que permite integrar estas investigaciones y al mismo tiempo, limita su accionar como artista a la creaci�n de un dispositivo parlante que haga interactuar elementos generados a partir de experiencias de vida ajenas: la relaci�n del curador y del artista con Uruguay y la propia relaci�n de los artistas locales con su ciudad.

i set up an intimate room inside an ecletic evening at Casa da m�sica to present two audiovisual
performances featuring two site-specific based works. Aion aims to unfold four abandoned spaces
inside the Zone of Exclusion in Chernobyl, Ukraine. It deals with a sonic and visual experience
of time, absence, and change - in an area haunted by an invisible and inaudible danger, amidst
the slowly decaying remains of human civilization. My collaboration with Francisco Janes
investigates the space of an abandoned rice factory near the river Tagus, 30 km from Lisbon, and
deals with the mesmerizing ruins of an industrial splendour from which only remains intriguing
metal organs, empty rooms haunted with inscriptions and suspended artifacts deprived and forgotten
of their original function. ah, soon to be demolished.

"The question of �social space� increasingly rises to the forefront of my concern and practice, (..) tries to align itself with thesocial, as a kind of model for practice itself�complex, self-organized,difficult, intimate, and anarchic: this of course takes me into what can be called �contextual practice�.
Working with context is about addressing the �pressures� which inform every action or object and yet which may go unnoticed: the space in which work is seen, the organizational framework that allows work to happen, the very networks which allow us to correspond, etc. Such a process, and ultimate shift, for me is increasingly a �social process� whereby sound, performance, space, objects, and audiences manifest themselves in the actualization of work, and the work itself possibly functions more �conversationally�."
